Secondary Framing

Purlins, girts, and eave struts are secondary structural components that provide support to wall and roof panels. Purlins are installed on the roof, girts on the walls, and eave struts at the junction of the sidewall and roof.

Functions of Secondary Members:

  • Structural Support: They act as struts, assisting in the resistance of longitudinal forces such as wind and earthquake loads.
  • Frame Stability: They provide lateral bracing to the compression flanges of the main frame, enhancing the overall load-bearing capacity.
These secondary members are made from high-grade steel, conforming to ASTM A 607 Grade 50 or its equivalent. They are available in various thicknesses, including 1.5 mm, 1.75 mm, 2.0 mm, 2.25 mm, 2.5 mm, 3.0 mm, and 5.0 mm. They come with either a pre-galvanized finish or a factory-applied corrosion protection primer with a minimum dry film thickness (DFT) of 35 microns.
